Markers ::marker Pseudo Element - CSS Pseudo Elements | CSS: Presentation Layer

Standards Based Development

Markers can be created by setting display:list-item which is nearly identical to display:block.

The marker box is only created if the computed value of the content property for the pseudo-element is not none.

Markers generate a box upon creation, just like other generated content and just like normal boxes.

Markers are placed at the beginning of the superior parent's content, just befor a ::before pseudo-element on the same superior parent.

Marker boxes are display:inline by default, thus width:auto resolves to the width of the marker's content.

list-style-position's value on the marker's superior parent can vary the marker's directionality and the initial value of its position property.
