zoom is a Trident non-standard, vendor-specific property when it was released with ie 5.5. zoom sets the magnification scale of an element.
zoom is not inherited, however it will affect the children of the element to which it is applied, magnifying them along with the parent. The content surrounding an element with zoom applied will reflow to account for the resizing that will occur when zoom is set to any value other than normal.
zoom is mainly used to ensure that an element has a layout, by setting zoom:1.0 (which is zoom:normal's equivalent), so that no other changes are evident on the web document. Percentage values represent a percentage of the magnification scale where 100% is equal to normal; Note: decimals in percentages are ignored. The example below sets a document's img /'s to have their magnification levels raised by 666%:
