Konqueror is a web browser/file manager providing file viewer functionality for file systems (like local files), files on a remote ftp server and files in a disk image. Konqueror is a core part of the kde Software Compilation.
Konqueror is developed by volunteers and can run on most Unix-like oss' and on Windows systems.
Codename Konqueror
Konqueror's name is a reference to its two primary competitors at the time of it's initial release: "First comes the Navigator, then Explorer, and then the Konqueror
". Its name also follows kde naming conventions by beginning with the letter K.
Konqueror was released with kde 2 on 2000-10-23 and replaced kfm.
Konqueror was replaced as the default file manager by Dolphin with the release of kde4.
Konqueror is powerd by the khtml rendering engine (and optionally WebKit.
