I am one of the chief architects of SAIC's Information Systems Architecture 2003 initiative to support the information technology needs of its 17,000 employees in 300 offices around the world. I am leading the development of SAIC's corporate use of Mosaic and WWW, as well as consulting with several other large companies in their use of WWW. I am director of the Web Engineering group, which is responsible for the company's Web in a Box system.

Prior to this activity, I was one of the lead designers of the Department of Defense's Composite Health Care System, a $1 billion contract to provide health care information systems support to 750 US DOD medical treatment facilities world wide. Prior to that, I was employed by the Veteran's Administration as one of the principal designers of the Decentralized Hospital Information Program, a health care information system installed in 169 VA hospitals. I have also assisted in adapting this system for the US Indian Health Service, as well as other organizations in Finland and Germany.

I was the designer and author of MailMan, an electronic mail, conferencing, and workflow automation system in daily use by 100,000 people throughout the VA, DOD, and Indian Health Service health care delivery systems.

My current interests are in the area of synthesizing the fields of information technology, complex adaptive systems, and WWW technology into a practical, widely applicable approach that provides an alternative to the traditional information technology approach.
