Panel: Commercial Web Information Providers
This panel brings together representatives from many major providers of
commercially-supported Web content. The discussion will cover the
advantages and pitfalls of serving commercial information through the Web,
interactions with Mosaic and other Web clients, and the commercial Web
environment in general. Each panelist will give a short presentation on
their service and their views of the Web, followed by an extended
question-and-answer period.
The panelists include:
- Dale Dougherty, Publisher of the
Global Network Navigator (GNN)
from O'Reilly and Associates. GNN has constantly-changing content,
news, and parts of some of O'Reilly's books such as the The Whole Internet.
- Robert Frasca, President of GALT Technologies, publishers of
NETworth
. The service has extensive information on personal finance and investing.
- Paul Hoffman, President of Proper Publishing, publishers of the
Internet Computer Index (ICI)
(panel chair). ICI gives users a single centralized location for
finding the best information on the Internet about PCs, Macintoshes, and
Unix systems.
- Boris Putanec, Director of Product Development of the
Internet Shopping Network (ISN)
, a division of the Home Shopping Network. ISN is an extensive computer
store on the Web that also lets users read InfoWorld magazine.
- Kerry Schwartz, Program Manager of Internet Technologies at
Microsoft
. Microsoft's multi-gigabyte Web server includes extensive technical
support, marketing, and sales information on all of Microsoft's products.
