Netscape Communicator
Netscape Communicator was an Internet suite produced by Netscape Communications Corporation and was the successor to Netscape Navigator 3.x when released in 1997-06.
Netscape Communicator's 4.x source code served as the base for the Netscape-developed Mozilla Application Suite, later renamed SeaMonkey. Netscape's Mozilla Suite also served as the base for Mozilla Firefox and Netscape (versions 6-9).
Netscape Navigator
Netscape Navigator was a web browser developed by Netscape Communications Corporation in the 1990s. At its peak, Netscape Navigator was the dominant browser in terms of usage share, however by 2002 usage of Netscape Navigator had almost completely disappeared.
Netscape Navigator was replaced by Netscape Communicator and aol discontinued development of Netscape Navigator on 2007-12-28 and cancelled technical support on 2008-03-01.
Netscape 6
Netscape 6 was Netscape's proprietary cross-platform internet suite from version 6.0-6.2.3; Netscape 6 superseded Netscape Communicator 4.8 (the release of Netscape Communicator 5 was cancelled), and simply became known as Netscape. Netscape 6 was based on the Mozilla Application Suite, which at the time was simply known as Mozilla.
Netscape 8.0-8.1.3
Netscape's releases between 2005-2007 were released as Netscape Browser (Versions 8.0-8.1.3), as a sole web browser and not a full internet suite like before. Mostly done in a response to Firefox's growth and popularity.
Netscape Browser 8.1.3 was released on 2007-04-02.
Netscape Navigator 9
Netscape Navigator 9 was released beta on 2007-05-06, final release on 2007-10-15 and marked the first Netscape browser to be produced in-house since Netscape 7.Netscape Navigator 9 brought about the return of the classic Navigator name, previously used for Netscape versions 1.0 and 4.08.
Netscape announced that after 2008-03-01 they would be discontinuing the web browser.
Netscape Browser was the eighth major release in the Netscape browsers. Netscape Browser's version numbers start at 8, as it is based on Mozilla Firefox. Netscape 6/7 were based on the Mozilla Application Suite, itself a complete rewrite of Netscape Navigator and Netscape Communicator (versions 1-4).Netscape Browser
